Perils of the Office: Weight Gain

November 17, 2009

Every job has its hazards. If you work on an oil rig, you might fall of and drown. If you are an airplane pilot, you might crash and die. If you are a lumberjack, a tree might fall on you, and if you are an office worker, you will probably get fat. It is pretty easy to see how this can happen. First of all, sitting all day means burning less calories. Keeping alert means eating more calories for many people. Enjoyment and breaking the tedium means having a lot fun foods around like brownies, cookies and other sweet or salty snacks. Being very busy might mean you keep working even if it’’s time for lunch. Then when you do have some time to eat, you are ravenous and eat much more than you should.

Margaret Lewin, an internist in New York City and the medical director of Cinergy Health, has a few useful suggestions how to keep those extra pounds from joining the rest of us.

First of all, how you eat, and not just the number of calories ingested seems to make a huge difference. Citing a research study Lewin explained that the more evenly the calories are eaten throughtout the day, the less weight is gained. For instance, those getting all their calories in one large meal tended to gain the most weight. Someone eating the same number of calories at three evenly space meals maintained his weight, and those spreading the same amount of calories throughout the day in 16 separate “snack meals” actually lost weight.

Survive Halloween!

November 8, 2009

Halloween is a wonderful time of year for kids who look forward to the trick-or-treating for weeks and even months before, but the sweets and candies that make Halloween are not necessarily something to look forward to.

Aside from the havoc that candies cause to our teeth, the sugar and other ingredients are not at all healthy, and especially in kids these ingredients (specifically the sugar) can contribute to destructive behavior and ill health.

Cinergy Health’s Medical Director, Dr. Margaret Lewin, made numerous press appearances and participated in many media mediums where she issued recommendations for both kids and adults alike to handle the candy craze of Halloween correctly. Her central piece of advice is to buy treats and candy “that you don’t particularly like, making it easier to resist.”

Medicare physicians

October 30, 2009

Medicare is governed by the concern for the welfare of the sick. However, at the same time this concern cannot be blinded by merely looking at the ill, as the welfare of the entire Medicare system has to be examined.

The Sustainable Growth Rate formula has been set in place to trigger automatic cuts in the Medicare fees paid to physicians whenever these rates increase at too rapid a rate. This would seem to be an ideal method to maintain the cost efficiency of Medicare, however another aspect of the Medicare equation must be considered, namely physician welfare.

In fact, since 2003 Congress has suspended the cuts that the Sustainable Growth Rate formula has required to be implemented. The reasons for this are really quite simple as internist and medical director of Cinergy Health, New York, Dr. Margaret Lewin explains, citing a New York survey that found that 25% of physicians would cut their patient load, while 15% of physicians would leave Medicare if fees were cut.

It is therefore essential to reconsider the SGR as a top priority – which is now something that Democrats are doing as they prepare their health care program for Congress. The Democrats understand that they must garner support for their program, and therefore they are choosing to do away with the Medicare rate cuts in order to keep doctor opposition down.

Dr. Lewin of Cinergy was quoted in an Investor’s Business Daily piece about the Democrats and the upcoming health plan legislation.

Health insurance from Cinergy Health

October 23, 2009

One of the essential concerns one must address when negotiating his work contract – or even when considering a position at a new workplace – is the health care plan you will be using. Health care plans are an essential ingredient in today’s world, and it is an understood fact of life that you do not want to be caught unaware or lacking the appropriate cover. Unfortunately there are so many Americans who do not have efficient health care plans, and there are also many businesses who are unable to offer the level of plans they would like to.

The rising health care costs and rates of insurance premiums mean that more businesses and companies are finding that they are unable to offer their employees generous health plans. Cinergy Health offers both businesses and individuals & families who are searching for private and/or general health coverage some of the best health care savings that can fit any budget.

CINERGY HEALTH, Inc., is a health insurance provider and offers its health plans nationally across the US. It is headquartered in Miami, Florida, and Cinergy Health Insurance provide the coverage for predictable medical care that most people will need most often.

College Grads Should Consider Health Insurance from Cinergy Health

October 14, 2009

cinergy bannerUntil young adults graduate from college or reach a certain age, they are included in the health insurance of their families. Upon reaching this special age of independence it is easy to make the acquisition of health insurance a low priority, but this is a mistake.

Cinergy Health urges young people to recognize that health insurance is not a luxury that can wait until the future, but it is a necessity of life, and a day should not pass by without health insurance, especially considering the daily increasing cost of health care in the United States.

Approximately 30% of the 19 to 29 age group are not covered by health insurance. This group is low risk for insurance companies and several options are open for these young people to get the coverage they need. Most major medical insurance plans offer individual coverage at a relatively affordable rate with a high deductible among, perhaps $5,000. This type of coverage will protect the young person if he is faced with a catastrophic medical event, however routine health care will not be covered.

Cinergy Health offers an affordable limited medical plan which will cover routine doctor visits and short term hospital stays without charging a deductible.

Cinergy Health Chief Medical Director Addresses Swine Flu Vaccine

October 5, 2009

An emerging trend of parents reluctant to give their children the swine flu vaccine drew an outraged response from Dr. Margaret Lewin, chief medical director of Cinergy Health. Attempts by parents to expose their children to confirmed cases of flu — in order to develop a natural immunity — were immediately labeled as “dangerous”.

In an interview with the Denver Post, Dr. Lewin said:

“The bottom line is this is very dangerous to children. Are you really going to risk your child’s well-being? This flu vaccine is being tested widely. Why wouldn’t you want your child to have as much immunity as possible?”

Only 35% of parents will definitely have their children immunized according to a recent survey by Consumer Reports.
